Ren Rou Sou Suo

Lately I’ve been a little obsessed with the Ren Rou Sou Suo, or in English, the ‘human flesh search engine’, netizens from all over China who uncover the identities of Internet villains.

In Communist China, citizens often find themselves frustrated and enraged at the lack of social justice they encounter on a daily basis. When they are provoked, the highly digital-literate population take to the internet and put the power back into their own hands.

This video is showing a young Chinese girl in a restaurant, who stops to give a man directions and escapes as he attempts to pull her into the bathroom with him. She retrieves her parents, who confront the man, an official government minister, before the police come and let him go citing a ‘lack of evidence’ despite the girls testimony, witnesses and the official himself shouting “I did it, so what? How much money do you want, give me a price. I will pay it!” to the girls father.

The news was posted on the internet, and the Ren Rou Suo Sou quickly discovered the official and identified him as Lin Jiaxiang, a party secretary of Shenzhen Maritime Administration. Lin Jiaxiang was dismissed from his government position in the Ministry of Transport on November 4th 2008. However once again, the Chinese police deemed there to be ‘not enough evidence’ to issue an assault charge, and this footage mysteriously vanished from the internet at the time.

Another case of Ren Rou Sou Suo saw a woman publicly named and shamed for stomping on the head of a kitten with her high heel, killing it. The woman was quickly identified as Wang Jue from her location and the online purchase of the shoes, and her details were posted online for thousands of netizens to use. She was mercilessly harassed, lost her job, and was forced to post a video apology online where she acknowledged her actions and asked for forgiveness.

You see a lot of this lately, notably with the recent case of the puppy killers. Its interesting how the internet has given power to the masses, a new and effective route for vigilantism..

Absolutely disgusting. Both of them. And all of them, for that matter — people who do these things. But the woman who stomped on that kitten’s head, I assume she did that willingly in front of the camera and which is why I feel angrier about the kitten thing than the young girl thing.

    Why is that?

Seeing it hammers it home, I guess, and there’s no small part of your brain you can escape to and say “ah, I didn’t see it, it doesn’t affect me”.

  2. LuLi Says:

Yeah she was definitely willing.. She did it to be funny or something. It makes me feel sick to my stomach to think of that poor little kitten 😦 There was another case, with a cat named dusty (you can find him in a google search) who was rescued from an abusive owner who posted vids on the net too. But that time, it was Anonymous who uncovered him.

  3. Wendy Voltaire Says:

Wow, I can’t believed she killed that kitten. So fucked up. I’ll admit I didn’t even watch the video. An explanation is enough for me to curl away from watching it.

  4. LuLi Says:

Yeah sometimes I cbf watching vids so I just explained the gist of it in the post. What an evil woman to kill a kitten!

  5. Marty Says:

Mabye they deserve it but still, trial by group opinion scares the shit out of me.

  6. Ray Dixon Says:

It’s understandable that people in China, an oppressed country, would use this method to expose injustices & corruption etc. I don’t know if there’s as much need for it over here but I think we should definitely place a hidden camera in all future Liberal party meetings – just for the larfs.

  7. LuLi Says:

Marty – definitely, and there have been a few cases of mistaken identities and family/friends of the targets being harassed in the same way, simply for being connected to them.

Ray – Yeah I understand why they would want to find their own justice, but over here our system works well enough. I would love some 24hr surveillance on those right wing mofos though!

  8. Domino Says:

That chick is fucked up. Really. Fucked up. Not sure about the mob situation though; then again, vigilantism (correct word?) worked for V. As long as they are right and don’t go too far – the punishment has to match the crime.

  9. Lil Says:

I know who you’re talking about, I saw stills of her handiwork. I wanted to pop a cap in her head and put her out of the world’s misery.

This wasn’t the first piece of video she’s done. She’s a “crush” porn actress. This isn’t the only kitten she’s killed.

They say that serial killers start with small animals.

Just food for thought to anyone reading this who knows who she is…

  10. LuLi Says:

Ohh that’s terrible, more victims 😦 I honestly cannot comprehend how people can be that evil, especially after seeing my cat come inside the other day all sore from some injury to his stomach. He was so helpless and in pain, I think someone must have kicked him..

  11. Lil Says:

Ah! LuLi! I am sorry to hear this! I hope that your baby kitty recovers! Only shit pants cowards pick on the helpless!

  12. LuLi Says:

Thanks, Lil! The next day he was fine again, so I was very relieved.
